DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Dutertre a Paris, gold verge fusee with concealed polychrome enamel erotic scene, 40mm, 18K gold OF original consular case, concealed polychrome enamel erotic scene to cuvette revealed by opening hinged rear, white enamel dial with winding aperture at 2 is a slightly later replacement, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge, no visible s#. Gross weight of assembled watch 34.5 dwt (53.7 g). Of approximately 1780 vintage, it is very unusual for a well-worn watch of this era to have such hidden enamel erotic scene such as this remaining in superb unrestored condition.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, scratch to perimeter of plate right of signature, some scratches and fine scratches elsewhere; dial is a slightly later style replacement that is secured by affixing screws at 3 and 9, some patched chipping adjacent affixing screws, fracture and some small flaking near 2, hl at 5:30; excellent hands; case shows ample wear, short fracture to upper perimeter of rear below pendant, some solder excess evident internally from past repair to lower perimeter of rear, few very small dings to upper rear, rear engraving detail substantially reduced, good bezel and side engraving detail, colorful concealed erotic scene in superb unrestored condition; bow pivots freely; good domed glass crystal.
